Molly Maids is a fine franchise, I know this because I considered joining their franchise ranks closely. In the final analysis I realized my personal franchise experience beginning in 1988, energy & resources required that I create a new maid service brand so that I could do what I really wanted...that is helping other business owners to prosper. For the past few years we have been working to perfect our maid service brand before rolling it out nationally. Our Orlando office has acted as a petri dish where we began developing our portfolio of marketing products for our franchisees to draw on; this the fun part of developing a brand. The tough part of developing a new professional residential cleaning brand has been creating & testing our unique training program, cleaning processes, & customer service theories...but it's not exactly like NASA. The learning curve in the Maid Biz levels off kind of quickly. That's why Molly Maids corporate doesn't operate any corporate offices. They have already learned it all.

The Molly Maid spokesman points out the major benefit of a Molly Maid franchise over You've Got MAIDS® is that they have better marketing materials. That is exactly why I did not choose to purchase a Molly Maid franchise territory in Orlando. Back when I was considering which maid service franchise to join I spoke at length with Molly Maid corporate, poured over their UFOC, visited the offices of 4 of their franchisees (one in Tennessee was the busiest Molly Maid on the East Coast), and interviewed 9 other Molly Maid franchisees over the phone. All nice people, but I came away with the opinion that Molly Maids corporate main service to their franchisees was providing marketing materials, and to that end I felt they were overpriced for this function. Molly Maid is one the more expensive franchises to purchase and they offer some of the tightest territories. To the uninitiated, small territories often serve the franchisor more than the franchisee.
If I was purchasing a hamburger franchise...I want the one that sells the best burgers & fries, and offers a great distribution system. If I was purchasing a pizza franchise I want one that makes a pizza that I love to eat. A maid service is different. There is no taste. There is no texture. There is no cult like following (think Starbucks, KrispyKreme, Chick-fil-A, or Donatos in Ohio). There is no McDonaldsesque, or Blockbusteresque maid service brand that dominates the American consumers mind for professional house cleaning, and there never will be. People do trust a professional maid service franchise much easier than an independent, and it is true that franchise businesses fail less than independent start ups.
At You've Got MAIDS® we have an abundance mentality when it comes to legal competition. I say as long as the maid service is licensed, bonded and insured welcome to the party. Imagine the professional home cleaning industry as a large and ever expanding pizza pie. No one can eat it all, but there is a slice for everyone who plays by the rules. The more ethical professional cleaning services there are, the better educated consumers will become about the dangers associated with hiring independent, often times illegal maids to come into their homes.
