Keep your cats’ liter box clean. Remove solid waste immediately & change the litter often. Always wear disposable rubber gloves. When cleaning your cats litter box don’t use strong smelling cleaning products as it may discourage your cat from frequenting the litter box. Wash the box with soap and water. Allow the cat litter box to air dry before filling with litter.

Cat waste and Cat Litter boxes are potential biohazards. Toxoplasmosis is one of the parasitic diseases spread by cats. Symptoms of toxoplasmosis include fever, shortness of breath and neurological problems. If a mother-to-be contracts the disease in her first trimester, it can produce cysts in the brain of her unborn baby. This can lead to developmental abnormalities or even miscarriage.

Other people with a weakened immune system, such as those infected with HIV & the elderly, may become seriously ill, and it can be fatal. The parasite can cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and neurological diseases and can affect the heart, liver, and eyes (chorioretinitis).

Women of childbearing age are at the greatest risk. Since our maids are primarily women of childbearing age it would be morally wrong for our professional maid service to allow our maids to work with our Clients cats waste.

Bottom line we will vacuum up cat hair, but we don’t touch cat litter boxes. To do anything else would be inconsistent with our guiding philosophy of treating our associates with respect and dignity.

MAID SERVICE INTEGRITY DEFINED

Maid Service with Integrity is part of our mission; it is part of our promise. But adding Integrity to your mission statement is not particularly unique, is it? Plenty of maid service companies talk about integrity, but is it just talk? When it’s all said and done about integrity, is there more said, than done?

Truth is a maid service company can’t judge its own integrity.

Truth is only a maid service company’s Clients can judge its integrity. Only a maid service company’s Customers can decide.

Right now we are enjoying a philosophical debate with a one-time move out maid service Client who initially ordered a courtesy cleans (dust, sweep & mop). Courtesy Cleans are less money because they take less time (time really is money). However on the day of service she expanded the scope of her order to become a Spring Clean in three ways:

She called our maid service office.
She left a detailed note for the maids on all the extra things she wanted done (attached herewith).
Her husband managed the end of the clean, having the maids remove air intake vents to clean out air conditioning ducts, pulling out the refrigerator, detailed cleaning of the garage, and other things we don’t normally do. He wouldn’t let the maids leave until he was completely satisfied.

Our maid service company was delighted for the extra work. We are in the business for pleasing our Customers. So long as we don’t endanger our maids we will do just about anything a Client asks. Just pay our maids for their time & energy.

Now that her toilets are sparkling, this particular maid service company Client doesn’t want to pay for the extra scrubbing bubbles! Now she wants to pay for the original Courtesy Clean even though she changed her mind and expanded her original order. This is like ordering only soup and a salad at Ruth’s CHRIS STEAK HOUSE, and then as an afterthought adding Ahi Tuna Stack, seared rare, topped with Colossal lump crabmeat and served sizzling with red pepper pesto the next time your waiter came to the table. After enjoying this feast, even a Grifter would have a hard time arguing to pay only for the soup and salad!!

It comes down to integrity. Clients also need to possess integrity. Most do. For the ones that don’t, this blog is less costly for me than hiring a team of clinical psychologists.

On the day after Saint Patrick’s Day it strikes me that maid service coupons and maid service discounting are similar to alcohol. Both maid service discounting & alcohol act as stimulants in the short run. Both maid service coupons and alcohol can become addictive. Progression not always linear

Linear progression makes sense to me. Do this, that, and the other thing in sequence and you should get to where you want to be.

As children most of us played with building block, Legos & perhaps Lincoln Logs. Some of us used all three at the same time to build what we wanted. I thought building a brand would be the same way. I was wrong.

Building a brand is more like putting a puzzle together. Some pieces don’t make any sense, but you need them all to build the brand. Some parts will be easier than others. Other puzzle pieces will be missing until you find it laying on the floor.

Putting a puzzle together is very much like building a brand. You need a broad view & a magnifying glass. You must be able to switch from macro to micro view in an instant, while always keeping the finished product pictured in your mind.

I wish progress was linear, but I will have to settle for the reality of a puzzle.

Getting ready for a SPRING CLEAN

It’s up to you. You don’t have to do anything, but the following steps will increase your maids efficiencies. For initial cleans, move in cleans, move out clean, & Spring Cleans more efficiency translates to a more economical maid service bill.

Turn on your ovens self cleaning function the night before. This way it will be cool to the touch when your maids arrive. Your maids will be able to wipe your oven clean in a matter of minutes, rather than 20-30 minutes or longer.
If your maids will be cleaning out the inside of your refrigerator, take a moment to toss out the spoiled and expired food. We guarantee you will see the difference when your maids are done.

MAITLAND FLORIDA MAID SERVICE QUESTION

A Maid Service question from Randy, a You’ve Got MAIDS Client in Maitland, Florida:

Frank…question…why does You’ve Got MAIDS have to only clean inside a home? Why not expand the pond you fish in and go after the total home cleaning wallet…pressure washing, landscaping, etc…I pay three different companies for these services (your company for cleaning service)…why not just pay one?

Great question Randy. It is tempting to do as you say. It makes sense, but not for You've Got MAIDS.

Selling maid services comes down to delivery. Does You've Got MAIDS deliver the goods? If our house cleaners deliver the level of maid service our brand promotes, You’ve Got MAIDS will prosper. If not, we will have to rethink what business we want to be in.

Our marketing maps out what prospective Clients can expect, if they hire You’ve Got MAIDS. I could design You’ve Got MAIDS marketing to go after that portion of the home cleaning wallet earmarked for landscaping, pressure washing and handyman services for our Clients in Maitland, Florida. However, if we do that, I believe our brand would lose focus.

Further, I believe Clients view the specialist better than they do the generalist. Brand extension is a losing game. In his book, Differentiate or Die, Jack Trout writes… “the specialist can focus on one product, one benefit, and one message. This focus enables the marketer to put a sharp point on the message that quickly drives it into the mind.”

If we ever decided to leverage our existing brand loyalty to increase our share of wallet, we would most likely create separate & distinct brands for each new line. Then we would promote these new brand associates to our Clients. Think Toyota & Lexus.

Better yet, consider McDonalds & McPizza. McPizza was a dud. No one believed they could get a good pizza from McDonalds. McDonalds took it on the chin, learned from it, and purchased Donatos Pizza. I think McDonalds made a wise decision diversifying through other brands.

Diversification may have been a good idea, but when McDonalds lost money for the first time in history, Wall Street told them to get rid of everything that couldn’t fit between hamburger buns. They dropped Donatos Pizza much to the delight of many in Columbus, Ohio. There is power in a simple, single-minded focus.

Cleaning homes is more difficult than it would appear. At You’ve Got MAIDS we spend nearly all our time focusing on the house cleaners who provide maid service to our Clients. Every day we are on a quest to constantly improve our training & services.

In order for You’ve Got MAIDS to prosper, it is essential that our house cleaners understand the how and why we do everything that we do. If our morning meeting was crowded with maids, plumbers, landscapers, and window washers, I believe our company would quickly lose focus, and spiral into mediocrity or worse.

Hello there - just wanted to share that I am really happy with the outcome of the house yesterday. I left her card at home, but I believe it was Diana that I met and that showed me what had been completed when I arrived. All 3 ladies were friendly, the house is in great shape and there were some little surprises like the bed was remade and the toilet paper had a cute finishing touch. Overall, I'm pretty happy and I thank you.

For future services (April 3), I just want to share that my priority for cleanliness is the master bath and the tiled floors and anything else is secondary. Diana was concerned about our carpets so I guess we can go ahead and throw vacuuming back in and they can determine what doesn't have to get done in order to include the vacuuming. I hope that's OK? Oh- and the bed doesn't have to be remade, but that was a nice surprise.

I hope it wasn't too tough of a job on their end.

20 years ago I hit the lottery!

20 years ago today I hit the lottery, when Cynthia agreed to walk down the aisle with me! She could have married anyone, but she chose me. This was no Brittany Spears drunken midnight marriage in Vegas. For starters Cynthia doesn’t drink; secondly Cynthia has never been to Nevada.

When it became too difficult to plan a traditional wedding we decided to visit the court house to make it legal. We vowed to do better for our children when they get to their marrying years.

My bride traded in her childhood dream of walking down the aisle for a ride up the elevator to the Justice of the Peaces office on the 3rd floor. Function over form…we got it done.

Thank you for settling for me. I’m not worthy.

Is You’ve Got MAIDS RECESSION PROOF?

I don’t know. I don’t know if You’ve Got MAIDS is recession proof. Our sales are still trending up. February has traditionally been a slow month for You’ve Got MAIDS housecleaning companies yet this February beat January! We didn’t expect it, but welcomed it nonetheless.

Sales for the month of February 2008 beat February 2007 by over 100%! Recession? Not from our perspective.

The Consumer Confidence Index was 75.0 on February 26th, down from 87.3 in January. On the following day, Ben Bernanke didn’t mention recession in his code speak, but he did lower federal fund rates which is exactly what we would think he should do if we were heading into a recession.

Benanke said consumer spending "appears to have slowed significantly" in the face of higher gasoline prices and a weakening labor market. He adding: "The business sector has also displayed signs of being affected by the difficulties in the housing and credit markets." The old joke says that a recession is when your neighbor loses his job; a depression is when you lose yours. I know these are hard times for many, especially in the housing market. But perhaps some recessions are selective. Maybe those companies that routinely take care of their Clients to a very high degree have a superior capability to survive the storm of recession. Perhaps those companies that take care of their staff monetarily while treating them with respect and dignity are recession proof. Perchance when you are on a mission that has nothing to do with raising sales you get higher sales as a by-product.
